Why does my phone suggest the next word before I've finished typing?

You type "I'll see you..." Your phone offers "tomorrow." It feels like mind reading. It isn't. The system has simply seen millions of sentences and guessed the highest probability. It doesn't know your heart, your relationships, or your plans. It just knows what usually comes next. We do this to each other constantly. We assume we know what people will say, how they will react, or how a story ends based on past patterns. Predicting someone isn't the same as knowing them. Never let a habit convince you that you've lost the power to surprise people.
